Week One = PB's!!

Firstly just wanted to say thanks for all the support I've received from you all! The feedback's been great...along with a few "hope you don't drown's".  I've had a few swims this week and I'm happy with my progress.  I spoke with Nick who completed an IronMan last year...he said a fellow competitor had his teeth knocked out by another guy's heel when they dived in to start the swim.  The guy swam, ran and cycled through the pain and completed the IronMan.  Pretty motivating stuff!

Swim Update:
Well, Week One was always going to deliver a PB...kind of like how the first edition of an Olympic Sport yields new Olympic Records right up until a medal is won.  Here are my swims for the week:

Too many breaks and not enough swimming is killing my distance covered and time per 100m.  I'll focus on improving that this week.  I'm going to arrange lessons this week too and hopefully get the first one for next weekend.  I also found this great website called swimplan which gives you up to five free swim workouts a day over a trial period.

Engaging News!
Finally, we had some very exciting news this week.  Paul and Katrina are engaged! Paul was one of my Groomsmen and Katrina was one of Gisele's Bridesmaids at our wedding, so we're very excited to have two of our very good friends getting married!

Prostate Cancer Foundation
As always, I'm swimming this race for the Prostrate Cancer Foundation instead of growing a moustache this November...last year my moustache thoroughly earned the official designation of 'Lame' given by the MoVember Club.   This year I wanted to do something epic, and I knew my moustache would not deliver! Feel free to show your support here:

Let's face it, I can't grow a Moustache

You know it, I know it, I'm moustache-challenged.  November begins in a few days and, rather than trying another lame attempt at a moustache, I'm going to try something big.  I'm going to learn to swim so that I can compete in a 4km open ocean swimming race in May 2013 in Majorca, Spain...and I'm going to stave off the booze until after the race.

This is the race I am planning to do:

The charity that will benefit from my mission is Prostrate Cancer UK.  I will donate £10 each month until May 2013.  I'd love you to support me, but I'd rather you had a real hard think about whether your 'tache is really good enough to warrant putting other people through a month of looking at it.  If it isn't, then come up with a challenge/goal/dream and put it in place and ask your network for support..and most importantly, give that support to a Prostate Cancer foundation.

Keep me in the loop, share your stories, failures, successes...and if you aren't joining in, share your cash!

Set up your own Justgiving.com page, or contribute some funds to mine:

For those of you who need added assurance, I cannot benefit from funds transferred to this page.  I will cover all my own training, preparation and travel costs.

Along the way I'll share a bit more of the back story and a lot of my progress up to the race.  I hope you'll join me along the way.

Cheers, Matt
